How to Attach a MSA Latchways Removable Transfastner
The Transfastener is a unique product that is protected by several international patents. This page explains how to attach and remove an MSA Latchways removable travelling device from a horizontal fall protection system.
About the Transfastener
The ingenious star wheel design makes it possible to work on a cable without the need to disconnect and re-align. The design runs smoothly when changing direction or when passing cable supports ensuring that the chance of human error is removed and thus the Transfastener ensures optimal safety. It can be attached and disconnected at any point on the Fall protection system giving flexibility on roofs with multiple systems.
Employers and anyone in charge of any work at height activity must ensure that the task is carefully planned, overseen, and completed by qualified individuals. Simple, low-risk jobs will take less work to plan than more complex ones. First, employers and individuals who are responsible must evaluate the dangers.
When thinking about safety measures for work at height, be reasonable and practical. There will also be some low-risk circumstances in which common sense tells you that no special measures are required.
Transfastener Attaching Process
One of the simplest techniques for fastening the MSA Latchways Removable Transfastener is to first fasten it to your harness, which frees up both hands. To do this, lift the gate on the locking carabiner on the Transfastener slightly while giving it a quarter turn, which opens the gate. Once opened, the carabiner should be connected to the attachment point on your harness and should lock when you let go of the gate.
The device must then be attached to the cable with the cam facing upward. There is a button on the device’s back that, when pressed, should open the star wheel and create a gap for the cable to be slotted into. Before starting to climb, make sure the device is properly locking onto the cable by checking it a few times.
